To Stand in the Posture of Love
"The only way to facilitate the space where we do something different, somebody has to show up in a different posture - somebody has to show up in a posture of love"
- Dheeyah Kanh, documentary filmmaker
This week I listened to a very powerful conversation between Thomas Hubl and award-winning documentary filmmaker Dheeyah Kanh (thanks Zoe for the recommendation!). They were speaking together about the radical moments in life of choosing to love, where we lean in rather than pull away, and learn to befriend the "other" - whether that "other" is someone else, or some aspect of our own being that we have temporarily exiled.
It was an evocative and inspiring conversation that I heartily recommend. You can find it here.
It got me wondering.....
What is the quality of attention that invites a space where love might dare to show up, or be revealed?
What is that capacity of the human heart/mind to listen and draw forth what connects and unifies us, rather than that which fragments and divides us?
And, because I'm a body-oriented kind of person.....
What is a posture of love, and how might we find our way to it?
What are the sensations, the feelings, the inner experiences that guide us to this possibility?
What do our bodies already know about how to love and make space for all that is?
These are all rather significant, ongoing enquiries that we couldn't possibly hope to "tick off" over a weekend!! But these questions form part of the inspiration behind the Embodied Listening workshop, coming up next weekend May 6th and 7th.
Listening is a generous act. To give our attention to something is to move in the direction of love.
So this is what we will do :)
We will be giving our attention, as wholeheartedly as we can, to our experience of being alive in our body.
We will slow down, and take gentle time to listen to our inner lives.
We will attend to our breathing.
We will move with care and precision.
We will cultivate a sense of grounding and support.
We will open to the flow of life moving through and around us.
We will enliven and re-inhabit our innate capacity to listen deeply, and make ourselves available for the learning that naturally comes.
If this exploration speaks to you, you are invited to join us.
There are still a couple of places left.
The flyer and all the details on how to register are below, as well as some information on other current and upcoming events.
I look forward to sharing practice with you again soon.
